Chapter 1365 Kinara
“Your Majesty, if we could talk.”
The eldest of the wives of the Godking followed Ning on the way back to their room. The palace was created in such a way that it had open windows and missing walls, where anyone could see or hear anything from anywhere.
Indebiss seemed to have indulged quite a lot with the humans and had taken nearly 80 wives to himself, most of whom only got to see him a day or two at best. Not many of them even got to do anything beyond just fan him during the hot days and feed him while he enjoyed his time.
He was quite promiscuous it seemed, despite being a Constellation.
Ning was quite surprised to learn that.
Most of the wives weren’t treated as more than just slaves, and only the most beautiful ones, namely the ones that had appeared in the meeting had even the permission to speak in his presence.
Ning turned to look at the woman who followed him and nodded. “Let us return back and we can talk,” he said.
As he walked back, Ning started hearing children talking in the distance, some toddlers crying even. His eyes narrowed at the sight, an unimaginable thought coming to mind.
When he looked at some of the women who bowed in his presence, a lot of them were very clearly pregnant.
‘That’s… curious,’ Ning thought. ‘System, can Constellations have children too?’
‘What would that be in this case?’ Ning asked.
“Well, they will all be handsome and beautiful,” Ning said. “That’s advantage enough.”
“How many children has the previous Godking had?” Ning asked.
“That… is hard to tell,” the woman said. “The Godking lived for hundreds of years and was known to have a proclivity for having many sexual partners at once. Also, he sent away his wives that weren’t fit or were subpar for him, and many of them took their children with them.”
“Truth is, it is estimated that each one of the 20 great Noble families of the empire has plenty of the Godking’s blood flowing through their veins as each one was created by a wife or child that the Godking sent away.”
Ning’s eyes widened in slight surprise. ‘System, give me the exact numbers.’
‘Dear god, that number,’ Ning thought.
He shook his head and continued walking back.
Ning arrived in his room and finally sat on what used to be Indebiss’ throne and turned around. “So, what is it that you want to talk about, Kinara?”
“Your Majesty,” the woman named Kinara knelt to one knee and started speaking. “With the late Godking dead, will you be taking us as your wives now?”
Ning frowned a little. “I already told you. I have nothing to do with any of you. You may live as you will, but I suggest leaving the palace since the next king might not like you being here.”
“But… you are the Godking. Do you not wish to take us?” she asked, looking back at Ning with particularly enchanting eyes.
Ning thought he was starting to feel bad for the woman, but it was such a faint feeling that it was hard to tell. He thought for a bit and snapped his fingers.
Instantly, both of the woman’s gloves came off and Ning saw a tattoo on her middle finger on the right hand glow brightly. The woman looked down in shock and quickly stopped using her powers, but it was already too late.
Ning chuckled a little. “Did you use these powers on Indebiss too? Did they work?” he asked.
The woman started breathing heavily, not daring to look at Ning at all. Fear had gripped her heart now that she had been found out. “You-your Majesty, i—”
“Don’t worry, I’m not going to hurt you,” Ning said. “You can leave now. Go talk to all the women in this place and find out what they want to do now that they are free to do whatever they want.”
The woman slowly looked up, judging to make sure Ning wasn’t lying and that she was in fact free to walk away. She stood up and looked at Ning one last time. “What…” she started. “What if… one of us wants to be the queen too? Are we allowed to?”
“One of you guys?” Ning asked with a curious look on his face. “If you can, you should definitely go for it. How old are you right now?”
“33 years old, the woman Kinara said.
“That’s plenty young to be a queen. If you can get the masses to be in your favor, then yes I can allow you to be one. But of course, since I will be choosing, you will only get it if you deserve it too.”
“I will try my best,” the woman said. She thanked Ning and left the place.
Ning watched her walk away and sighed. ‘That woman certainly is wise,’ he thought. The moment the Godking had fallen, her first thought had been for her own safety, and she had tried to find it in Ning’s shadow. Now that he had refused it, she had decided to no longer hide in the shadow, but become the light that blinds their enemies.
‘She’s ambitious,’ Ning thought. ‘I hope she is more than just that though.’
He let his thoughts stray away from the woman and looked down at his finger. Now that he had some time before sunrise on the other side of the world, it was time to learn just what it was that the tattoo on his finger meant.
