Chapter 1586: At the Court Again
The news of Ning’s exploits spread through the city like wildfire.
The plan had been for Ning and the girls to return to duty the next day after resting in City 3 for the night. However, what Ning had managed to do was simply too incredible for the girls to want to keep it to themselves.
They saw the need to let the news go to the headquarters first, reporting to Redaime. Redaime didn’t believe it at first, but Katie was the proof to show for it.
From Redaime, the news traveled upward, going directly to the Major General. While delivering the news, the news had also been spread to some other people who immediately let more of their colleagues and friends know about the situation.
The news multiplied immediately, going from one person to another as within a day, everyone from all the cities had heard of what had happened.
The people were confused, shocked, and very much in doubt. It was hard to believe that such a thing was even possible, and until they saw it happen, they wouldn’t trust it at all.
That was a believable amount of skepticism on the people’s part and Ning didn’t blame them for it. He would not believe it too if he heard this from someone else.
Despite the fact that the news’ legitimacy hadn’t been proven just yet, people who had long since lost the ability to use Spark were beginning to line up to be the next ones to be healed.
Unfortunately for them, Ning wouldn’t be able to get to them for a while.
The very next day after the news had spread throughout the cities, Ning was called to the court once again. Only this time, he wasn’t treated as a criminal, but as someone with some authority instead.
Many came to see this meeting between him and the Major General. Many wanted to see how it was that he could possibly heal the Sparkless.
The courtroom was gathered to the very full this time as everyone who had the authority to come to this place had come to watch. Katie, Parima, and Derria were sitting in the front row of seats as the only witness to this thing.
Ning sat in the spot where all the criminals stood and looked at the people up ahead.
The female Major gave him a slight smile, unlike the last time when she was so cold.
The male Major didn’t speak much at all and let others do their thing. He was too old to shout anyway.
Finally, the last of the Majors showed up as well. He was a short man with fluffy orange hair, aged between 40 and 50. He sat in the middle, looking at Ning while giving a small smile.
This was an important enough event that all 3 Majors had showed up.
As everyone waited, the Major General finally walked into the room, walking past everyone as he went up to his seat and sat down. He gestured for everyone to stop saluting him and turned to look at Ning.
However, before he could say a thing, his eyes moved away from Ning and toward the young man sitting in the Major’s seat.
“Major Sokham, you decided to finally come?” the Major General asked with some hint of mockery in his words.
“I had to, Major General,” the man said. “It sounds like this might just be the sort of thing I look forward to.”
The Major General said nothing more and turned to Ning to confront Ning. He looked at the man sitting in the seat and sighed.
“I thought we were done with you, but then you go ahead and do what many would believe to be impossible,” the Major General said. “Just how do you do it?”
Ning shrugged at the man’s question. “I have a lot of free time on my hands, I suppose,” he said.
“While being house arrested?” the man asked.
Ning smiled. “When else is a man free?” he asked.
The Major General seemed to appreciate his reply, but not as much as Ning would’ve hoped for. “Alright, let us begin court then. Since you are all here for this one thing, I won’t make you wait.”
He looked at Ning and asked, “Did you cure Sparkless?” he asked.
Ning nodded. “I did,” he answered.
“Is it possible for you to repeat this procedure?” the man asked.
“I should be able to, as long as I get some people to work with me. I need a Thinker and a Connector to get things started,” Ning answered.
Derria seemed ready to help Ning no matter what now. He had healed the main issue with her, which made her want to reciprocate the aid back toward him.
“Can you tell us how you did it?” the Major General asked.
“Yes, of course,” Ning said and began explaining how it was that he was doing something that no one else had done before.
His explanation quickly surprised everyone as they saw just what it was that Ning had to do to be successful. The Major General was taken aback as well hearing everything, especially the part where Ning had to convert something without seeing where it was.
He had to commend Ning on that part for doing something incredible. When Ning stopped, he raised an eyebrow in surprise, “That’s it?” he asked. “That seems like a quick event.”
“It is, Major General,” Ning said. “If you can do it, it doesn’t take much time at all. The most time is actually taken by the Thinker who has to divine an answer.”
The Major General nodded. “Then you don’t mind demonstrating to everyone here by doing it all for real, do you?” he asked.
“Not at all,” Ning said. He had been ready for this. “Please call for someone Sparkless and we can begin.”
“No need,” someone joined their conversation even when not called for. “I am already here.”
The newest Major got out of his seat and walked out into the group. “Heal me.”
Ning stared at the man in complete surprise. The third major had been a Sparkless?
