Chapter 38

nWhile halted, he looked down on two tilted slabs before him only for his jaws to tremble and tears to well up in his eyes.

nBefore his eyes were two figures. A short woman with beautiful long light brown hair and round brown eyes, Elaine. Beside her was a long honey yellow haired girl who was only slightly shorter and clearly younger, Viera.

nThe two were right in front of his eyes, they were his mother and sister. Like all the others in the room, they wore patient gowns and were having their blood drained.

nNevertheless, their hearts continued to beat.

nXavier felt a variety of emotions upon seeing them, happiness, sadness, relief.

nThere was one emotion, however, which had been welling deep within him, an emotion he had felt from the moment he entered the room.

nRage.

n“Hey! You, what are you doing in here!?” A Vampire asked, baring his fangs as he suddenly grabbed onto Xavier’s shoulder from the side.

nAs he ignored the Vampire, Xavier removed the tubing and lifted the two girls onto his shoulders.

nThis caused the Vampire to quickly draw his sword from his waist and point it Xavier.

n“Sangrea.” He called out as he turned to the Vampire.

nThe Vampire, seeing Xavier’s expression, shivered, and in that very moment, a shadow passed by his neck, slicing it off.

nAs Xavier leapt behind a pillar, the nearby vampires watched as the decapitated Vampire’s head rolled on the floor after sliding off his neck.

n“What are you guys doing!? After him!!!” Shouted another Vampire as he ran across the rows of people towards the pillar.

nXavier who saw this turned to Sangrea in a rush.

n“What are you waiting for? Get us out of here.”

nShadow Manipulation: Shadow Barrier.

nFrom the shadows, Sangrea extended her hand and a dark spherical barrier appeared, hiding them.

n“The weight load is too high, it needs to be one at a time.”

nHe nodded nervously, showing his confidence in her as he handed over his sister to her.

nTwo seconds later, the two sank into the shadow beneath them before disappearing. While listening to footsteps outside, Xavier remained in the same position with his mum over his shoulder.

n*CLANG!* *CLANG!* *CLANG!*

nSuddenly, the sound of attacks falling on the barrier started resonating on the inside.

n“Argh… X-Xavier…?” His mother groaned as she slowly opened her eyes.

nA drowsy feeling overtook her, her vision was blurry, and her head rang.

n“Yeah… It’s me, mom.”

nTears welled up in her eyes as she recognized his voice. “Your… Father…”

nJust as she was about to finish her sentence, her eyes closed once more. She had fainted.

n“Get some rest… Everything will be fine.” He muttered.

n“Xavier! Bring her here!” Said Sangrea as she emerged from the shadows behind him.

nAfter handing her over to Sangrea, Xavier watched as cracks began to appear on the shadow barrier. It wasn’t going to last much longer.

nWith a desperate look on Sangrea’s face, Xavier’s mother, as well as her figure, plunged back into the shadows once more, leaving Xavier alone in the dark.

nAfter taking a deep breath, Xavier slowly exhaled while seated in absolute darkness.

nPutting his hands together, he listened to the sound of his tears dripping onto the ground.

n“Thank you, God…”

n“They were still alive…”.

n“Thank you…” He cried.

n*SHATTER!*

nThe dark barrier shattered showing that there was nothing behind the pillar. Xavier had vanished.

n“Where did he-”

nThe nearest Vampire, who had stepped forward to check on the situation, was impaled from above by the edge of a blade.

nIn a fraction of a second, his impaled head struck the ground below as Xavier’s figure fell and slammed it from above.

nYou killed a Vampire!

n 130 XP!

nLEVEL UP!

nA smothered Vampire’s head hung below Xavier’s crouched figure as he remained crouched on the ground with his head hanging.

n“Who did that to my mother and sister?” He asked.

nXavier subconsciously released an abnormal amount of bloodlust upon asking the question. As a result of consuming and absorbing a noble’s blood, the pressure felt very much like one, frightening the vampires.

nFrom his pressure alone, their hands trembled without stop. However, they couldn’t simply let him go after what he had done, so they didn’t back down.

n*Sigh*

n“Do I have to do everything alone?”

nA voice entered Xavier’s ear from the side, another Vampire was approaching from down the rows.

nXavier quickly turned his head in the voice’s direction, ignoring the Vampire’s before him. The pressure he was feeling, there was no doubt.

nIt was a noble who was heading towards Xavier.

n*Grab*

nIn the moment the other Vampires and the Noble launched themselves at Xavier, a hand appeared from the shadows below him to grab onto his feet before dragging him in.

n*CLANG!*

nSeverals of swords crashed against the ground in that moment as Xavier’s figure disappeared into the shadows.

n“Tsk, he got away huh? Ring the alarms. Alert the Vampire Lord.” Said the Vampire Noble with a grin as he appeared on the scene.

nShort Blue lilac coloured hair with crimson red eyes. His waist was adorned with a sheath carrying a long sword.

nSome of the Vampires rushed to ring the alarms as he’d ask while the others on the scene bowed their heads.

n“W-We apologise, Noble Arnold…” Apologised the Vampires one after another having failed to stop him.

n“It’s fine, he wasn’t someone you could handle… But it doesn’t matter… that short Vampire will die either way… The Camp’s Vampire lord is here after all.”

n–

nXavier’s figure emerged from a shadow into an empty closed off and dark room.

nFrom the inside he could see his mother and sister laying on the bed as well as Sangrea’s figure emerging from the shadow beside him.

n“Where-”

nXavier’s mouth was instantly covered by Sangrea who leapt at him. The two fell over with her on top as the sound of hasty footsteps outside echoed through their ears.

n“Search everywhere for them! They couldn’t have gotten far!”

n“Send people over to the gate to keep watch! We must find them!”

n“They’re crazy if they think they’re getting out of here!”

nThe first thing he noticed when calming down was his ears ringing. It felt as if they were picking up a loud sound but at the same time weren’t.

n“It’s an alarm… It’s to let the people of the Camp know there’s an invader… It’s played at a frequency at pitch which is inaudible but can only be heard by Vampires…”

n“From now on… Until we make it out of here… We’re going to be hunted…” She whispered in his ears.

n
