Chapter 171 Clearing The Town

The two little beasts, unlike what their appearance suggests, are mighty and crafty. Although they have an extremely large number of skills, each one complements the other perfectly. It was the ideal configuration for battle!

“But why did you become a government employee instead of a mercenary?”

I couldn’t help but mutter after regaining my senses. Fina, hearing my sudden question, tilted her head cutely before replying.

“Because I don’t want to put myself at risk.”

“Ah…”

She had a point. But if she wished to do that, then why are her two tamed beasts optimized for battle?

“That is because I ask these two cuties to protect me every hour of every day. They must be powerful enough to protect me, right?”

As if reading my mind, Fina added.

*Hiss!*

By the side, the two little critters called out to me. As I stared at them, I wondered just why the two hated me so much that I could tell even without the link conveying it. It can be seen in their eyes.

Anyway, I decided to let them be for now. They would need some time to catch up with how I’m their new master and that Fina is their new companion and no longer their tamer.

“First, let’s clear the town of those bats.”

Even now, I can still hear their screech from time to time. Although faint, it still wears down my nerves every time I hear it.

“Now that I think about it, where’s Ember?”

I forgot about her completely after getting dragged by Fina. From the link, I realized that she was in the same direction as where Fang and the others were. She already went to provide support to the others even before I asked her to.

Before rushing outside, I turned to Fina in worry.

“Fina, although it’s late to ask this, can you fight?”

Back at the battle with the Succubus Lord, although I knew that she was fighting with Ember and Ying Yue, I didn’t watch how she fought. Also, the ones they fought aren’t demons but rather tamers, so they didn’t fight with the intention to take lives.

Fina realized what I was worried about and just smiled.

“I just don’t want to risk my life, but if I need to fight, then I can.”

As she said so, Yorm and Judy both snuggled to her legs, as if trying to appease her and telling her that they were there for her and were willing to fight for her. It was a heartwarming scene, if not for the fact that they were staring daggers at me.

“Great. Then let’s go.”

I walked out of the room quickly, with Fina and the two following closely behind. I can’t just magically fix my relationship with these two new tamed beasts, after all, so I’ll just leave them alone as planned. As the elders say, there’s nothing that time can’t heal.

After leaving the government office, I quickly turned to where the girls were and ran. As the town was pretty small, it didn’t take long for me to reach their location.

They were at a crossroads on the main path across the town, fighting the bats that kept coming one after the other. Ember, who had already run out of clones to use, was only able to support them from the back with items.

Furthermore, Igni was completely unable to show her full power because if she did, she’d create more damage to the town than all the bats combined. The most she could do was stand on one of the rooftops and attract the attention of the bats with her aura.

Fang was the most active among the three. She kept on vanishing and reappearing all over the place; each time, a group of bats would vanish into an inky black mist.

A short distance away, the rest of the girls and the other tamed beasts were creating a wall. They slowly marched onward as they killed any bats that dared to cross their range. Their teamwork was excellent, to the point that I felt I could learn a thing or two from them.

“Ember, Fang, Igni! We’re here to provide support!”

I called out to announce our approach. As I did, the three spared a glance in my direction before smiling, then immediately returned to focusing on the battle before them.

As expected, even for them, losing concentration against a swarm of enemies at the 4th level would be fatal. They can’t lower their guards, even for a moment.

As we approached, I realized that the right flank was open, and the bats were using that to keep pestering Wan Li and Wan Er. I turned to Fina, and as she was looking at the same spot just now, she nodded her head before rushing off.

I rushed to Igni’s side and quickly copied her, releasing an aura to attract the bats’ attention. As they approached, I attacked them with pure energy attacks that evaporated them at once.

“Woah…” 𝒃𝙚𝙤𝙫𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝙢

I was slightly surprised by how my power increased compared to before. If I’m not careful, then I may end up destroying the town too. Just like Igni, I probably have around the 6th stage of power already.

With this much physical prowess, it’s easy to kill bats even without using energy. I randomly swung my fist and kicked with my legs, and the bats fell like moths to a flame.

As I was starting to enjoy squishing them with my fists, I realized that their numbers were dwindling. Furthermore, the sun was already about to peek over the horizon, coloring the sky a lighter hue.

“Wow, time flies.”

I muttered as I sat on the rooftop, resting my tired limbs. Igni did the same, saying, “Good work, my Lord,” and sat beside me, watching the sunrise. Although there were still a few bats remaining, they were quickly handled by the rest of the girls.

All the bats around the town were completely cleared now, and Fang was the one responsible for clearing more than half of them. It makes me proud to be her tamer, seeing how she was the top contributor to saving this town.

“I guess it’s time to visit Guren.”

I muttered as I sighed. By now, he should have made a countermeasure for the 10,000 succubi tamers. I just hope that I can still retain my freedom afterward.
