Chapter 340 Starting with the Allies

nMax was as amicable as ever. I quickly took the hand he was offering, shaking it.

n“Yes, it had been a long while.”

nWhen I first saw him, I only had Fang and Ember with me, but now I have a lot of them. Thinking of my growth speed, I think it was really pretty fast.

n“So, are you really planning to demolish the nobility system when you get appointed as king?”

nAs if picking on me, he asked with a cheeky smile. I also smiled, nodding my head firmly.

n“Yes. I mean, thinking about the future, having a democratic system is much better than a monarchy.”

nIf you lose the king and his successors, just like what happened now, things will get out of hand quickly. But for a democratic government, it would only mean moving everyone a step up the ladder, and everything would still function without problems.

n“Well, it might work… But you do realize how heavily our current society relies on that system, right? I doubt you’d get much support from the other nobles.”

n“From them, probably not. But they’re only a small part of the whole.”

nLosing noble’s votes wouldn’t really matter, as the commoners compose more than 99% of the population. Rather, I feel amazed at how the current society managed to support itself, being outnumbered by that much.

n“Anyway, what about you? You heard some things from Zeshion already, right?”

nI turned to glance at the said person, who was with the other god tamers on the other end of the room, talking in hushed voices.

n“About putting you as king? I wasn’t really interested in becoming the king myself, so I agreed with his suggestion. Also, now that I heard what you are planning, I guess I’m tempted to see how the kingdom would change when you get to the top.”

n“Well, other than changing the system, I’m not planning anything else, either way.”

nI shrugged lightly, dismissing his grand expectations.

n“Right, on another note, how was Igni’s mother faring with you?”

nI remembered it a little earlier and decided to ask. Max, however, turned to look at me with a confused expression.

n“You mean Prima? She’s already left my place, you know? Apparently, now that her daughter found a tamer, she’s planning to create another one.” 𝘳.𝑐ℴ

n“… Create?”

nYou mean, after I got Igni, she returned to her husband and was now “working” to give Igni a younger sibling? I don’t know if I should tell this to her… I really should visit them soon.

nAnyway, it seems like Max wasn’t really motivated to become the next king. He did agree to give me his voters, though. I wonder how that’ll go.

n“And the Young Miss of the Luo. It’s been a short while, but you… changed a lot.”

nWhen Max last saw her, she was still a human, after all. Right now, she looks like a divine sea serpent mix—a demihuman of sorts.

nBy the way, when I offered Ying Yue to return to her original form, removing her “awakened” roots, she firmly refused. The same went for the Wan sisters. I wonder why? If it were me, then I’d probably be kneeling before the person, giving thanks as I accepted the offer.

nThe succubus girls, the ones staying back at the Debauchery Hall, refused the offer too. However, those who weren’t staying there accepted the offer without a second thought. It was their prize for providing help during the demon invasion earlier, but it looks like it’ll take a while longer before I can return them to their human appearance.

n“Sir Maximillian, please forgive me for my rudeness back then.”

nYing Yue bowed her head deeply, almost to a 90-degree angle, apologizing to Max. The last time, she suddenly started attacking me and even forced Max to not lend me a hand.

n“It’s fine, it’s fine. I didn’t really mind it. Rather, in the end, you two still ended up on the same side.”

nMax teased her a little, making her lips tighten in a frown. I guess she still minds that event.

nAfter that, the three of us talked idly for a while until Max needed to go. We bid our farewells and left, respectively, with me bringing Ying Yue along. I didn’t bother asking Zeshion to teleport me back, but instead opened a portal myself. Their talk hadn’t ended yet, after all, and I felt that bothering him about such a simple matter would be rude.

nUpon our return, I asked Ying Yue to tell everyone about what happened and schedule an internal meeting among all the family and branch heads of both the Seimei and Luo families.

nHowever, apparently, Ember had already told everyone, and a meeting was already scheduled. Everything was happening too fast; I had no idea what I was supposed to be doing.

nJust as I was getting all confused, Ember came to the office and dragged me to the place where “all” the family and branch heads were already gathered. The atmosphere around them was pretty tense.

n“Will, you’re finally here. Come, sit down.”

nLady Luo was smiling sweetly, uncharacteristically. Wasn’t it that her default expression was a frown? Looking at her smile sent shivers down my spine for some reason.

nLed by her and watched by everyone else in the room, I sat down. Looking around, even Guren was present, his face a complicated mix of anticipation and worry. Ember, what the hell did you tell everyone?

n“First of all, thank you for gathering.”

nIgnoring every signal sent my way, I decided to simply start the meeting.

n“Right now, along with me, there are five candidates gathered to be the next king. Two of them are technically our allies, Luo Ying Yue and Maximillian Virgil, so we already have some advantage.”

n*OOOH!*

nEveryone cheered loudly upon hearing this. However, my next words made them quiet down.

n“Furthermore, by the time I become king, I plan to completely abolish the monarchy and nobility system!”

nSilence spread throughout the room, enough that you could probably hear a pin drop. It looks like, in the meantime, convincing my “allies” will be my main priority.
