Chapter 757 - Facing Hostility

Rika's head whiplashed in the direction of her close friend who had just spoken rude words towards another one of her friends.

She knew that Glennise had a high sense of superiority when compared to all the girls present here but she never felt that there was anything wrong with it.

After all, Glennise Brodie was the only daughter of Duke Brodie and also held the highest status among all the young girls of their Kingdom, only second to the Royal Princess.

Rika had gotten along with Princess Felicia and Glennise for years now and due to their close relationship, she had a good grasp of their personalities.

While her friend, Glennise, might sound haughty sometimes, it was only a facade she put up before outsiders.

She was mild and caring when she was alone with them and hence Rika had never felt that Glennise was someone with a bad personality.

However, her only drawback was that she tended to act out sometimes just like what had taken place earlier.

Usually, it would be alright for Glennise Brodie to state her opinions without thinking twice as she held the highest position among all the girls.

No one would find fault with her for interrupting someone else's conversation and neither would anyone treat it as wrongdoing on her part.

She was from a Ducal family and in a way, she had all the rights to be included in every conversation taking place.

However, Rika was worried as they had spoken out of turn.

After all, that child was speaking, not to them, but she had been responding to Duke Tanner's younger son.

In theory, Glennise and Taylor were both born into Ducal families and hence should be on the same level.

However, everyone knew that Rosenhyde was a kingdom that favored boys over girls.

Therefore, even if Glennise also belonged to a Duke's household, she needed to bow before Taylor who had the obvious advantage in this situation.

Rika was fretting that the Duke's younger son would reprimand her friend which would put her to shame before so many people.

At the same time, she was feeling bad for her other friend who had been subjected to Glennise's harsh words.

Yvonne St. Claire was a pupil learning under the guidance of Marquess Sullivan Samed, just like them yet Glennise had mocked her a moment ago.

They knew better than anyone if the assignments given by the Royal Tutor were worth the anxiety or if Miss St. Claire was only pretending to be pitiful before those two boys.

Despite knowing this truth, Glennise had spoken harsh words just now which had caused Rika's eyes to widen upon hearing them.

Seated beside her sister, Aleena had already experienced Glennise Brodie's dominating nature.

They came in bursts when no one expected so she wasn't surprised when this sudden shift in the atmosphere took place.

On the other hand, the one towards whom those words had been directed was looking back at Glennise with a calm look on her face but her mind was anything but calm.

Earlier today, Yvonne was mocked for not being able to conceal her emotions properly which only strengthened her resolve to maintain a straight face now.

She had a good idea of the other girl's personality thanks to the script she had read and also the dreams which depicted the life of 'Yvonne' from that same script.

Glennise Brodie was someone who believed that staying at the top, having everyone's eyes on her, and being the center of attention would make up for the love that she did not receive at home.

In the script as well, she was given the highest honor among the young misses after the Princess.

Being at the center of attention gave her a much-appreciated sense of security, reminding herself that despite the lack of love and attention from her father, she was still loved by many.

She used this reminder to settle the unnerving anxiety in her heart and also the sadness she buried deep within.

'So when the Prince chose to love the daughter of a Baron, she could not accept that shock.' Yvonne recalled while looking right into the eyes of the girl now facing her.

She could not understand what had brought about this sudden outburst from that girl.

She had not been involved with Glennise for a very long time and neither had she done anything that could justify this hostile attitude she was receiving.

Therefore, it was a given that she was miffed at the sudden jab she had gained even when she had been minding her own business in silence.

It was Rika who had interrupted her conversation with Taylor but Glennise was now looking at her as though she was the one who had acted out of turn.

This did not sit well with the little girl who decided that she did not have to tolerate this kind of attitude.

Looking straight at Glennise, Yvonne began to list out the lessons on which the Marquess had decided to test her, using those numerous assignments.

Rika's eyes widened once again but this time for a different reason and even Glennise's lips curved downwards.

The topics being mentioned by the daughter of the St. Claire family were the same as the lessons that they had received as assignments from the Marquess.

"Miss Yvonne, is this true!?

" Rika exclaimed in surprise once Yvonne was done.

This time, no one interrupted her when she nodded in response to that query.

The girls around them were all older than her and knew the list of lessons she had just revealed to them but the boys appeared to be clueless about what was going on so Aleena decided to help them out a little.

She had spent some time in their company today so she wasn't as reserved and when she spoke, the boys too paid close attention to what she had to say.

"Miss Yvonne is learning the same lessons that my sister is being taught at the Royal Palace.

" She explained why the other girls were now staring at Yvonne with that weird look in their eyes.

After all, how could they not be surprised when she was being taught lessons meant for girls a whole grade above her?

If what Miss St. Claire had said was the truth then she was following the syllabus that was meant for the girls a year older than her.

Before they had come to the playhouse, Rika had been complaining about how tough the assignments given by the Royal Tutor were.

Even Glennise Brodie had agreed with her and stated that she hoped she could complete them on time with Rika and the Princess.

Aleena was also a witness to just how much Rika was struggling with those lessons every day and even had gone as far as to ask the help of their elder brother Jacob to complete them.

Therefore, it was surprising to hear that Yvonne St. Claire, who was a year younger than Rika and the others, was given the same assignments.

Taylor and Howard had never interfered in her education and neither had they ever discussed it in the past so they had no idea of such a thing taking place.

They always tried not to disturb her during her study time so they had been clueless until now and it would have stayed that way for a very long time.

Yvonne had decided that it wasn't necessary to reveal this matter to others as it was something between the tutor and his pupil.

However, she had disclosed this information today for only one reason.

"Even if I might be able to complete them in the next two weeks, working on them takes up a lot of my energy.

" She spoke truthful words as they indeed did take too much of her time and effort to complete.

She was a perfectionist and worked until she was satisfied with them which caused her to waste a large amount of time on them.

Ever since Marquess Samed had given those sheets to her, she had spent extra hours studying past her usual timings.

She wanted to complete them before she went to the Valente fief for her birthday so everything she had said was the absolute truth.

The confidence apparent on her face proved that she had not uttered a false word which was making Glennise's face darken.

Earlier, Rika was grumbling about how difficult the assignments were and she had agreed with her.

However, now, a younger girl was learning the same lessons as them and even revealed that she would be able to complete them in the next two weeks.

This much was enough to make her clench her jaw in dissatisfaction with what had just taken place.
