Chapter 55 - In front of everyone (1)
n
n
nDohyuk became tense with nervousness.
n‘I didn’t miss.’
nHe intended to finish him with the kick.
nIt was the ‘slicing’ kick. However, right before the kick struck, Changkun twisted his face and was struck with the back of the foot instead of the bladed side. If it wasn’t for that, he would have been dead with his head sliced in half.
nBefore Dohyuk closed in, Changkun took something out and began swinging it. It was a small dagger that was aimed at his own wrist.
n<
nDagger used for rituals in Grava worship. It is not powerful, but it allows the user to use their own blood to summon hounds with Grava’s divine power. The power of hounds is determined by the user’s physical attributes.
nA Godly Item bestowed by Grava, blood dripped from Changkun’s wrist and turned into a hound the size of a calf. Dohyuk tried to fight it-
n-W-what are you doing?! Get away from that thing!
nBut he suddenly heard a voice in his head and dodged the hound’s attack instead.
n-It will stick to you the moment it touches you. It doesn’t do any damage. It can only chase and bind the target.
nIt was Aruga’s voice. Dohyuk had been hearing his voice ever since he entered the city. It was all because of him that he knew what to do about the man named Kang Changkun.
nDohyuk turned to his opponent. Another hound was appearing, so Dohyuk quickly jumped out of the building through the hole from the previous attack. One of the hounds jumped, trying to chase Dohyuk, but it seemed that it couldn’t jump that high.
n‘It’s not fast either.’
nDohyuk then organized his thoughts. Those hounds were made from blood that Changkun released. So…
n-Two is probably his limit.
nAruga confirmed his guess.
n“And the way to fight them?”
n-Water or heat
nThe latter was Aruga’s specialty. This was Aruga’s city, after all. Just like how he attacked Dohyuk, he would have to create an avatar and unleash his ray of light which would kill the hound. In fact, he had the power to kill Kang Changkun if he wanted to. What was important was the reasoning for that.
n-I think you know, but I’m…
n“Yeah.”
nDohyuk wasn’t his follower, but Kang Changkun was a follower of Grava. Even if he was utilizing the city as a slave encampment, he was abiding the city’s rules. If Aruga attacked Changkun in his current state, it would be the same as Aruga touching Grava’s property for no reason. And this meant that Grava’s followers would wage war against Aruga’s cities.
n“You don’t need to explain.” Dohyuk said, “It’s a deal.”
nIt was enough for Aruga to have given him the information he needed. Dohyuk turned and braced himself to fight the ones climbing up…
n“…Hey.”
n-…Yeah?
n“Didn’t you say two was the limit?”
nThere were about five hounds that had climbed up and were growling.
n-You know… I hate getting hurt.
n“…!”
nThen, Dohyuk saw Changkun also coming up. His wrist was bleeding profusely. Even if it was a body that had changed, it seemed that the bleeding was a bit dangerous.
n“Even if I have a Nature that regenerates… withstanding pain is a different thing. So, it’s best to not get hurt at all.”
nHe was slicing his wrist open that was about to heal up.
n“So, you. I won’t let you die easily. You know that, right?”
nEven his teeth were growing back.
n“And you won’t tell me who you are anyway.” Changkun spat.
n“No.”
n“…?”
n“I’m Yoo Dohyuk.”
n“…THE Yoo Dohyuk?” Changkun stared curiously. It seemed that he was amused rather than shocked.
n“I can see that you came from the north… well, let’s say you are Yoo Dohyuk. So what business brings you all the way here?”
n“I didn’t have any reason to come. At least, in the beginning I didn’t. But now I do.”
n“What?” Changkun didn’t understand what he meant, but it was the truth.
n“I don’t think those who sent me here expected this… but it will be helpful. This is a place where ‘beasts’ oppress ‘humans’, right?”
nWhat he needed to do was simple: kill the beasts and save the people.
n“So, you’re here to take my turf and slaves. That’s some nice rewording you did there.”
nChangkun laughed, “So, you’re like me. You feel good when people look at you, right?”
n“What?”
n“I don’t care if you are Yoo Dohyuk or not.”
nChangkun raised his finger.
n“I offer this hunt to my Lord, Grava.” He pointed at Dohyuk, “If I can’t bring that bastard’s heart to you, I will offer mine. I swear, O’ Lord.”
nAn oath made by a follower to their god. Grava responded with a gift.
nChangkun’s stats and the power of his Nature increased tremendously. Even the hounds grew bigger. As the hounds charged,
n“I allow it,” Dohyuk said. “You can eat my mana.”
n<
nDohyuk’s body began to heat up. The heat wave arose from his body and concentrated on his two legs, covering them with flames.
n<
nIt was the power of the Parasitic Spirit that he tested as he came to the city. Feeding it with his mana allowed him to wield flame around his body. Dohyuk kicked, destroying one of the hounds. Changkun immediately whistled and recalled his other dogs.
nDohyuk turned.
n‘I can’t fight him here…’
n-It’s not yummy.
nHe started running from roof to roof.
nThe hounds and Changkun did not have enough Agility points to catch up to Dohyuk. One by one, Dohyuk destroyed the hounds and ran across the buildings. However, it wasn’t going to last long.
n“…!”
nDohyuk felt like he was out of ‘air’ now. It wasn’t real air but…
n-It’s not yummy. NOT YUMMMMMMMYYY.
nHis mana was now running low. But…
n“The chase is fun too!”
n
