Chapter 82 - Radioactive

nThe nuclear power plant facility was about the size of three football fields. In total, it had a dozen smaller buildings and four main buildings, which were the reactors.

nAs they carefully closed in on the power plant, Viktor could more clearly see how much of a mess the place was in.

nHalf of the place was either almost completely burned down or had become rubble. From the looks of it, two out of the four reactors had most likely had a meltdown for some time. It was no wonder that the place was full of radioactivity, hence the glowing undead.

nBut that was not all. Viktor also noticed a strange, unpleasant smell in the air that made him reflexively frown and pinch his nose; a mix of rusty metal, rotten flesh, and something he could not quite pinpoint. The sharp smell reminded him of gasoline, but it was not quite it.

n“Are you sure it’s safe? Even for an earth-realms?” Viktor asked, clearly concerned. Even without any explanation, he could tell that this place was nowhere near safe.

nThe state of this place practically screamed ‘danger’, and he could not help but feel a little uneasy.

nObviously, this was not Jessie’s first trip to the place. Upon hearing Viktor’s question, she explained that while the last trip indeed made some of the mortal-realm fighters sick, those in the earth realm were only affected lightly.

n“Light? How light?”

n“Don’t worry, I’m sure you’ll be all right,” the girl patted his shoulder and said with a cheeky smile. Viktor waited for her to elaborate, but instead of continuing to speak, the girl led the others to enter the facility.

n“…”

nHow reassuring.

nDespite his urge to complain and question her more, Viktor decided to stay quiet and follow the group. It would be bad if he got left behind.

nOn the way, the group encountered a few stage-one radioactive undead. Or ghouls, so they called it. Fortunately, although stronger than normal undead, none of those creatures could match their speed and strength, not giving them too much of a hassle.

nBugs and Wade brought an energy rifle each, but at moments like this, the two fought using a saber. As for the one-eyed fisherman, just like those traditional fishermen who caught fish from a river, the man used a long spear to take care of the incoming ghouls.-.

nFrom the way it looked, all the weapons they had were definitely tier one or maybe even tier two alien weapons, just like his axe.

nHowever, the tricky bit was to kill them before the ghouls could make too many noises and call their ‘friends’.

nAfter a few minutes, the group finally managed to pass the gates and close in on one of the smaller buildings.

nThe group was surprised when they encountered two stage-two radioactive undead, but Viktor was ready thanks to the Djinn’s sensor. He even used this chance to show off and kill both of the stage-two radioactive undead one after another within seconds.

nSplat! Splatt!

nThose stage-two radioactive undead were certainly faster than the usual red skin stage two undead, but their battle power was still in the 30s’ range, unable to match any of the earth-realm fighters present.

nStill, Viktor’s swiftness amazed them.

n“Wow! Nice moves!” Jessie complemented. Even she was amazed. Although there would be no problem if he had not done such a thing, courtesy to his 60 agility points, Viktor killed those things before the others could even move.

nThe compliment and the amazement on the group’s faces made him feel more confident, but after the glowing burnt undead stopped writhing and finally died, a notification came into his mind.

nUnable to absorb spirit energy.

nUnknown essence found.

nThis quickly turned his satisfaction into irritation. At the same time, it made him wonder what this unknown essence was, but now was not the time to stumble on this. Without staying for long, the group soon entered the small building.

nJessie and Roman started observing the place and making plans.

n“Those corpses will definitely lure some abyss creatures soon. We should split up,” the girl first suggested.

n…

nFollowing their plan, Viktor and Jessie swiftly sneaked into one of the main buildings while the other three sneaked to another one.

nAlthough there were fewer members in his group, it was nothing to worry about. After all, Viktor had the Djinn’s sensor, allowing him to know how many radioactive undead were around.

nStage 1 : 68

nStage 2 : 49

nStage 3 : 8

n??? – level 35

n??? – Stage 3

nBattle Power – 42

nFrom this, Viktor found that what Jessie told him was indeed true; there were only about a little over a hundred undead in the entire facility, and most of them among the concerning stage 3 were concentrated on the burned-down reactor.

nActually, rather than the radioactive undead, what concerned Viktor more was being in the radioactive area for too long.

nWho knows how it would affect his perfect hair and skin!

nTherefore, Viktor just nodded and followed the plan. The sooner they get this over with, the better.

nThe two entered the large building. Luckily, there were only a dozen stage one and stage two radioactive undead in total. While he went to take care of them, while the girl went to look for the parts.

nSplattt! Splaatt!!

nWith Viktor’s current strength, none of these stage one or two could match his speed.

nHowever to his surprise the tier two creature able to spit out their gooey green liquid

nSplaasshh!!

nHe manages to dodge it, but only to realize the gooey liquid able to melt a metal floor.

n“That’s dangerous and freaky disgusting!”

nHowever, Other than dodging the toxic spits, he has no trouble finishing all the ghouls.

n“All done!” Viktor said with satisfaction. He was about to ask Jessie how the search went, but when he turned to look at her, he noticed that the girl looked a little anxious.

nIt was a sight he had yet seen before.

nShe took the time to open a large tank. From where he was standing, Viktor could see that there were multiple tubes inside. The girl attentively checked the tubes one by one, but the result disappointed her.

n“What is it, Jessie?” Viktor cautiously asked.

nTo his surprise, the girl simply ignored him and went toward the back room. Without delay, Jessie began to open up a few steel boxes. Still, the result only disappointed her.

nIt was obvious that the girl did not find what she was looking for.

n“What are you looking for?”

n“The fuel rods! It’s the fuel for the reactor, I thought there were more, but it’s all used, empty!”

nThe girl keeps searching the whole two levels of the place but still couldn’t find any at all.

n“Let’s go see the others, they might have better luck,” she said with a sigh, trying to bring her hopes up.

nHowever, when they almost hurriedly entered the other reactor, Viktor saw that the others had the same disappointed expression on their faces.

n“No? Not even one?”

n“What are you expecting, Jessie? We already salvaged this place before, right? Are you sure there are some left?” Bugs asked, a little skeptical.

n“Yes, I am sure. The professor said he left some in here.”

nUnlike Bugs, Jessie had no doubt about it. She was confident that they would be able to find the parts she needed if they searched hard enough.

nRoman, who had been focusing on their surroundings, reminded, “It’s already dark, we shouldn’t hang around for too long. Let’s get out of this place.”

nHowever, Jessie visibly became unhappy when she heard this.

n“No, we really need this. The town depends on it. there’s still another place we can search.”

nBugs and Wade’s expression immediately changed. The two did not hesitate even the slightest and immediately rejected the idea. From their expressions, it was clear that the two were scared.

n“Come on, we’ll get it fast!” the girl tried to convince them. She even tried to use her charm, but the two did not show any signs of changing their minds.

nIn the end, Jessie turned toward Viktor.

n“…What about you? Will you help me?”

nViktor smelled trouble, so there was no way he was going to easily accept it. Seeing that he was also hesitant just like the others, the girl finally spoke out of desperation.

n“If you still want to have your own reactor, you should follow me. If you don’t, you can forget about it.”

nJessie quickly walked away as soon as she finished saying those words. Upon seeing where the girl was heading, Viktor instantly realized why no one was willing to follow.

nThe girl was heading toward the burned-down reactor, the one which suppose to have the highest radioactive threat.

nViktor looked toward the other three. They initially hesitated, but under his gaze, they ultimately decided to follow the girl.

nHowever, just as he was about to head there as well, the Djinn suddenly warned him.
