Chapter 60 - Uncontrollable Factors
n
n
n
nThe situation was completely out of control.
nPeople had already given up on fighting over the food.
n
n
nSome were bitten by the zombies.
nAll the noise they made had made the zombies restless.
nThe zombies did not even have the time to tear their prey apart anymore. They just chased after those who were still alive and bit them.
nLi Ran looked around but could not find Lin Ke.
n
n
nInstead, she saw a soldier with a gun. It was strapped to his back. The soldier saw that someone needed help and rushed towards them with a knife in his hand.
nLi Ran came out from her hiding spot. She could not stay in this chaotic place any longer.
nThe woman who was sacrificed to the zombies could be seen. Her body was still lying at the same spot but with a missing head. Clearly, it had been eaten.
nA little boy was standing not too far away from the corpse. There was no fear on his face, just tears of sadness.
n
n
nEven when a zombie was heading towards him, the little boy did not move an inch.
nLi Ran immediately ran to the boy. This was the woman’s child!
nLuckily, she managed to get to him first and hurriedly said, “It’s dangerous here. Your mother would want you to live.”
nThe little boy raised his head after hearing her words. He looked at Li Ran and cried even more. Then, he said honestly, “Sister, I was already bitten by a zombie earlier. I don’t know when I’ll turn into one of them. You should run. I just want to spend a little bit more time with my mother.”
nAfter that, the little boy revealed a bite mark on his arm.
nThe wound was festering and it looked horrible.
n
n
n“Oh right, I still have a piece of bread here. Sister, you can take it. I don’t think I’ll need it anymore.”
nThe little boy stood up and shoved the bread at Li Ran.
nLi Ran was obviously unable to react. She just stared blankly at the sensible child.
nHow could a child be more thoughtful than any other adult she had ever come across?
nSuddenly, the little boy began pushing her away.
nHe growled, “Sister, you have to be careful. Some infected people can be hard to spot. Now go. I can’t hold on much longer.”
nLi Ran almost stumbled when the little boy pushed her.
nHow was he so strong?
n
n
nShe saw that the little boy’s eyes were turning cloudy. He began swaying left and right.
nWhen the little boy raised his head again, he was completely different.
nWith a heavy heart, Li Ran turned around and fled.
nThe plane had already landed but the pilot had no idea what was happening.
nA hand patted Li Ran’s shoulders.
nIt was one of the soldiers who was tasked to follow Li Ran. Seeing her, his panicked heart calmed down a little.
nHe hurriedly urged, “Miss Li, we need to leave this place at once. The longer you wait, the more difficult it will be.”
n“Okay.”
nThis time, Li Ran did not put up a fight and instantly agreed.
n“Did you see the woman who was with me earlier?”
n“She’s safe. Don’t worry, follow me.”
nThe soldier walked in front of Li Ran and led the way with an anxious expression.
nShe followed him closely behind and asked, “What’s going to happen to this base?”
n
n
nThere was only silence.
nNot even the soldiers could control the current situation.
n“Will the rest of the people be saved?”
n“I’m not sure but the higher-ups have made some arrangements. Don’t worry, they won’t give up so easily.”
nNaturally, he knew that Li Ran was concerned so he tried to put her at ease.
n“However, it seems that we will have trouble getting through.”
nThe soldier stopped in his tracks. He looked at the crowd and fell into deep thought.
n
