208 Second Layer

nFrom the battle against the three cerberus, Viktor got one red spirit stone.

nAfter defeating Cerberus, they didn’t rush inside again. Viktor knew his men were too tired, so he decided to take a break before going back into the depths.

nBehind the gate, there was a different scene from before. As far as the eye can see is a large cave with glittering stalagmites and stalactites.

nThe recruits were amazed while walking through the cave. They were unaware; this beautiful place holds thousands of monsters that are difficult to kill.

nOn the way, Viktor heard Djinn’s voice in his head.

n

nViktor knew what monster Djinn was referring to, but he still asked for detailed information.

nGargoyles – stage three abyss creatures

nAfter receiving that information, his memory of a terrifying flying creature flashed through Viktor’s head. The unpleasant experience of them made Viktor need to rethink to go deeper.

nViktor needs a strategy to fight those annoying creatures

nSo before traveling any further, Viktor stopped the journey. He discussed first with Anna

n“About 5 kilometers ahead of us there will be a group of gargoyles blocking. They are quite troublesome, especially for beginners.” Viktor’s eyes caught the recruits around him.

nAnna nodded. He also thinks the same as Viktor. During training the recruits had never once fought a flying monster and most of them were melee fighters.

nNot to mention, they can only be killed with magic. Whereas they had no magic weapons and only a few were magic casters.

nHowever, Anna is a skilled strategist. He had already prepared a plan for a situation like this.

nBefore continuing their journey, all the recruits listened briefly to Anna’s strategy. They seemed to listen to every word Anna seriously.

nAfter the quick briefing was over, they went back into the depths.

nThe deeper you go, the more stale the air felt. The recruits started sweating. There was no sound other than the sound of footsteps and human breathing.

nOn their way, suddenly they heard a scream. Instantly they knew what was coming for them.

n“Everyone take their positions!”

nThe whole army made a square formation. In the outermost row are melee fighters. While long-range fighters such as archers and magic casters stayed in the center of the line.

nNot long after, thousands of gargoyles emerged from the edge of the darkness.

n“Fighters, raise your weapons and shields! Archers prepare to fire when the enemy is within a 100 meter radius!”

n“Yes, ma’am!”

nHowls echoed along the giant cave passage. The recruits held their breath and gripped their weapons tightly. Instantly arrows in the form of fire and ice. This was a tactic that Anna thought of herself. The magic casters gave magic infusion in arrows, thus they could injure the gargoyles without having to use magic weapons.

nSwooosh! Swooosh!

n“Kyaarrrgggh!”

n“Get the line up!”

nThe fighters resisted the gargoyles’ attacks while maintaining their positions. If the vanguard dispersed, then the archers and magic casters who were the spearheads would be threatened.

nSplat! Splat! Splat!

nHundreds of bullets appeared out of thin air and charged at the thousands of Gargoyles. Viktor tightened Metal Bullet standing beside Anna. Even if it didn’t kill them, it was enough to block the attack.

nJessie then took out iron balls and threw them at the thousands of gargoyles that were flying in the sky. Instantly the iron ball exploded and issued a bolt of lightning that could give a stun effect. After that the archers started shooting at them.

nMeanwhile, Viez and Liza, who are close-range fighters, protect Jessie from gargoyle attacks.

nAlthough this tactic was effective, the battle was very long and tiring. Because they could do nothing but survive and maintain their position in the line. They can’t fight dynamically.

nAfter fighting for 6 hours, then the first wave is over. But the attack frequency wasn’t as much as when it was in the first layer of the abyss pit. So they have time to rest.

nSince the lag between wave one and the next wave was so long, Viktor decided to move on to hunt them down.

nViktor led the line, because only he knew where the gargoyles were. They combed the entire second layer of the pitt abyss while maintaining formation. In a way, they were approaching one by one the nests of the gargoyles.

nThe deeper they got, the more gargoyles attacked them. They continue fought in the darkness of the cave for days.

nThey only stopped they arrived at a giant hole with a diameter of more than 50 meters. Inside there is only infinite darkness. The recruits wonder if their battle is over. But their question was answered after throwing an electric ball and making an echoing sound of explosion.

nIt wasn’t long before thousands of gargoyles emerged from there.

n“This is the last lair! Kill them!” Viktor ordered.

nHearing Viktor’s call, the recruits got excited, especially the archers and magic casters.

nSwooosh! Swooosh!

nThousands of arrows of ice and fire pierced the skin of the Gargoyles. In less than three hours, about 2000 were killed.

nWith this, all the gargoyles in the abyss were exhausted. In total they got about 15,000 yellow spirit stones as a result of hunting for two whole weeks of gargoyle hunting.

nWhen the last gargoyle was overthrown, the recruits quickly fell to the ground. Their legs feel tense after moving for 7 hours.

nSuddenly, Viktor stood in their midst. Everyone looked at him with exhausted faces.

n“My friends, we have fought together so far. I can tell from you that you still have a burning desire to penetrate the abyss pit, especially after defeating Cerberus. But I have to say, we’ve journeyed far enough.”

nInstantly the exhausted face turned into a smile and the sound of cheers resounded. They released their weapons, stood up quickly and jumped up and down. Some of them seemed to be hugging, some were even crying because they were too happy.

nThe full struggle of the three-month expedition to the north was finally over.

nSatisfied with celebrating victory, the recruits quickly picked up their weapons and they headed their way towards the surface. But Viktor still seemed to be standing still at the end of the hole.

nViez who realized Viktor did not come back with the group approached him.

n“You’re not coming back?”

n“Go first. I’ll catch up later.”

nViez’s eyebrows rose. He knew what his master was saying and it was enough to take him by surprise. Then her lips curled.

n“Okay, good luck.”

nFrom the start, Viktor had planned to farm with the recruits to fight Cerberus. But he himself had no intention of stopping here. He still wanted to enter the abyss pitt without anyone’s company.

nWith the recruits’ current abilities and experience, they still weren’t enough to protect themselves. Especially to help him. Apart from that, Viktor also had other goals.

nHe wanted to know what the limits of his strength were.

n
